What the treatment involves
A white filling repairs a tooth that has decay or a small break, using a composite resin matched to the colour of your tooth. Done well, you should not be able to see it or feel its edge with your tongue.
We start with numbing gel and a slow injection, then wait until the tooth is properly numb. That wait is the difference between a filling you remember and one you do not. The decay is removed, the tooth is shaped, and the composite goes in layer by layer, each one set with a blue light.
Before you leave we check your bite with a thin strip of paper and adjust the filling until it sits exactly right. A filling that is slightly high is the most common reason for a sore tooth afterwards, so we take the time.
Every filling carries a two-year guarantee. If it fails in that time, we replace it at no cost.
If you have old metal fillings that are sound, we will leave them alone. Replacing a healthy filling removes healthy tooth, and we would rather not.

Common questions
Should I replace my old metal fillings?
Only if they are cracked, leaking or decayed underneath. Sound metal fillings can stay; we will not replace them for looks unless you ask.
How long does a white filling last?
Usually eight to twelve years with good care. Ours carry a two-year guarantee — if one fails in that time, we replace it free.
