Are clear aligners worth it? Questions to ask before you start
Price, time, what "refinements" really means, and the one question most people forget to ask — who pays if it takes longer.

Clear aligners can do a lot, and they are sold hard. Before you sign anything — with us or anyone else — here are the questions worth asking.
Is the price for the whole course?
Some prices cover the first batch of aligners only. Ask whether the quote includes refinements (the extra aligners that finish the job), check-in visits and retainers. Ours does: from £1,900 for one arch and £2,600 for both, with everything included.
Who looks at my teeth?
Aligners are a treatment, not a product. Someone qualified should examine your teeth and gums, take X-rays, and check that nothing needs doing first. At Northlight that is Dr Iona Craddock, every time.
What if it takes longer?
Teeth do not always move the way the simulation says. Ask who pays if you need more aligners. If the answer is “you”, budget for it now.
Will I actually wear them?
Aligners need to be worn about twenty-two hours a day. That means taking them out to eat and drink anything but water, then brushing before putting them back. If that does not fit your life, fixed braces might suit you better, and we will refer you.
What happens afterwards?
Retainers. Teeth drift for the rest of your life, and a retainer worn at night is what keeps them where you paid to put them. We include your first two sets.
So, is it worth it?
For most adults with crowding or gaps they want to fix, yes — if the plan is honest and the price is whole. The consult and scan are free. Book an aligner consult and take the simulation home to think about.
